“The Silent Partner” is a fitting title for a film that could be called one of the great unknown masterpieces of Canadian cinema. Directed by native Vancouverite Daryl Duke and penned by eventual “LA Confidential” director Curtis Hanson, “Partner” is a slow burn thriller that effectively builds towards a still-shocking incident of brutality.
Plot summary. Two no-hoper mates, habitual drinkers and gamblers, are lured by an incognito stranger into paying for, looking after, and racing, a Greyhound which they name "Silent Partner". After a series of unsuccessful runs they are duped into injecting the dog with a stimulant before the race; it dies, but not before winning.
