Promised Land is a good film that was on the cusp of being great. Regrettably, the unwillingness to dig deeper into its important issues ends up lessening the film's impact.
57/100. One of those frustrating films in which hackneyed story elements gradually steal focus from exquisite doodling in the margins. Until Krasinski's "villain" shows up, it's an uncommonly sharp, character-driven piece that more closely resembles today's top-flight TV dramas than it does a typical indie film (never imagined I'd say that approvingly), with Van Sant in relaxed-pro mode.
Dec 28, 2012 · Promised Land is a solid flick with a good message about the dangers that come with fracking and how big businesses try to take advantage of small towns. Again, if you can get past the pacing Promised Land is a solid movie that benefits from the sure direction of Van Sant and the performances of the main cast.
