York County is a historic county in Upper Canada, Canada West, and the Canadian province of Ontario. It was organized by the Upper Canada administration from the lands of the Toronto Purchase and others.

York Region covers 1,762 square kilometres from Lake Simcoe in the north to the city of Toronto in the south. Its eastern border is shared with Durham Region, to the west is Peel Region, and Simcoe County is to the northwest. -York County was divided in 1852 creating Peel County to the west and Ontario County to the east. -Canada West became the Province of Ontario in 1867. -In 1873 Richmond Hill was incorporated as a town.
The Regional Municipality of York consists of nine municipalities. Local government is organized in a two-tier structure. Public transit, water, emergency medical services and policing are handled by York Region, while curb-side garbage collection, local parks and libraries are the responsibility of each municipality.
North York is a former township and city and is now one of the six administrative districts of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located in the northern area of Toronto, centred around Yonge Street, north of Ontario Highway 401.
