   Why is heating oil so expensive?

   • Heating oil is so expensive primarily because of the high price of crude oil. According to the US Energy Information Administration, crude oil represents 53% of the price of home heating oil (1.76 per gallon). Refining makes up 15% of the price (0.50 per gallon), and distribution and marketing make up the remaining 32% (1.07 per gallon).
