HATFIELD & THE NORTH were a two-album Canterbury Scene band, named after the well-known A1 Motorway sign on the Great North Road from London to Edinburgh. Their first eponymously-titled album passed by virtually unnoticed at the time of its release in 1974, but their second album "The Rotters' Club" (1975) is much better-known.

Hatfield And The North. Formed in November 1972 by Pip Pyle, David Sinclair, Phil Miller and his brother Steve Miller (3), strictly confined to front-room appearances. Pianist Steve left after six weeks and was replaced by organist Dave's cousin Richard Sinclair.
