Viacom Productions was the television production arm of the 1st incarnation of Viacom. It was active from 1974 to 2004 until it merged with Paramount Network Television after the company purchased Paramount Pictures.
Viacom was a distributor of CBS television series throughout the 1970s and 1980s, and also distributed syndicated television programs. The company went under Sumner Redstone's control in 1987 through his cinema chain company National Amusements.
CBS Cable Networks and Viacom Media Networks are merged; with eventually rebranded as ViacomCBS Domestic Media Networks (later Paramount Media Networks) Divested. CBS Productions – folded into the original Paramount Television (now CBS Studios) on November 28, 2019.
