Born in Dunedin in 1952, Murray Newey started his screen career as floor manager for TVNZ in Christchurch. While working on wrestling show On the Mat, he became lifelong friends with wrestler and future talent agent Robert Bruce.

Biography by AllMovie. During the '80s and '90s, Murray Newey was one of New Zealand's busiest production managers. He worked closely with Lucasfilm on such projects as Willow (1988), and shortly before his death, was working as a production executive and location scout on the prequels of Star Wars.
