Born on 16 November 1971, Waqar Younis went on to represent Pakistan in 87 Tests and 262 ODIs. Troubling the batsmen with pace and swing, Waqar Younis was considered the purveyor of reverse swing and the in-swinging yorker. In Tests, he accumulated 373 wickets at an average of 23.56.
Waqar Younis bucked the 1980s trend of pitching fast and short by pitching fast and full. Not an obvious recipe for success until you factor in prodigious late inswing, which was designed to smash into the base of leg stump or the batsman's toes. In his youth, he was one of the fastest ever.
