Chevron also utilizes the Texaco brand within the United States, though its locations are much more sparsely-spread than that of Chevron. Texaco is used at 1,346 locations across 17 states, mostly in Washington, Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, and Hawaii.
In 1999, Chevron initiated a series of talks with Texaco, which proved unsuccessful. The following year, Chevron renewed talks with Texaco. On October 16, 2000, the two companies announced that they had reached an agreement to merge.
