Offside (Persian: آفساید) is a 2006 Iranian film directed by Jafar Panahi. The film is about a group of girls who try to watch a World Cup qualifying match but are forbidden by law because of their gender.
Synopsis. During the 2006 World Cup qualifying match between Iran and Bahrain, numerous young women are caught and rounded up for dressing as men so they could gain access to the game. Guarded by several soldiers in a holding pen, the women attempt to keep updated on the score.

Filmed during an actual qualifying match for the 2006 World Cup, Offside works brilliantly as both a comedy and a tragedy. The film follows the fortunes of a group of young women who are caught trying to sneak into a football match at Tehran's Azadi Stadium.
A football field becomes the confrontation site between a small-town police department headed by its peace-loving chief (Roche) and a band of local hippies led by his son (Goodeve) who decide to settle their differences on the gridiron. Tony Randall is a bearded guru -- a successful insurance agent.
