The Beaver Coat (German: Der Biberpelz) is a satirical play by Gerhart Hauptmann premiered in Berlin in 1893. The work is an example of a German naturalistic Diebskomödie, or 'thief's comedy'. The drama takes place "somewhere in Berlin... around the end of the eighties" (referring to the 1880s).
The Beaver Coat (German: Der Biberpelz) is a 1949 East German comedy film directed by Erich Engel and starring Fita Benkhoff, Werner Hinz and Käthe Haack. It is an adaptation of Gerhart Hauptmann's 1893 play The Beaver Coat, previously adapted into a 1928 silent film and a 1937 sound film produced during the Nazi era.
