Once a Thief (Chinese: 縱橫四海; Literal Title: Criss-Cross Over Four Seas) is a 1991 Hong Kong heist comedy film directed by John Woo, who also wrote the screenplay with Janet Chun and Clifton Ko. The film stars Chow Yun-fat, Leslie Cheung, Cherie Chung, Kenneth Tsang and Paul Chu.
In San Francisco, ex-con Eddie Pedak, who served time for armed robbery in cahoots with a gang led by his brother Walter Pedak, has been out of jail for six years and is still on parole.
Frustrated and angry, Eddie is finally persuaded by his brother Walter and his accomplices, Sargatanas and Shoenstein, to assist in a $1 million robbery. The robbery is successful; but Walter is killed in an attempted doublecross, and Sargatanas kidnaps Kathy to force Eddie to turn over the truck with the stolen goods.
