Dashiell Hammett was an American writer of hard-boiled detective novels and short stories, such as The Maltese Falcon and The Thin Man. He was also a screenwriter and political activist, and influenced the genres of private eye, mystery thriller and film noir.
Hammett is a film directed by Wim Wenders and produced by Francis Ford Coppola, starring Frederic Forrest as Dashiell Hammett, the creator of The Maltese Falcon. The film follows Hammett as he gets involved in a mystery involving a Chinese prostitute, a blackmail scheme and his old friend Jimmy Ryan.
