The Junkman Is a 1982 independent action comedy film, which spent two years in production. To make the film, H. B. Halicki used his own personal collection of over 200 cars, toys, and guns—including Eleanor, the star of his 1974 cult classic Gone in 60 Seconds. The film opens with a montage of Harlan B. Hollis' life story. After marrying his love, Helen Fox, they open a junkyard and become wealthy, when Harlan decides to become an independent filmmaker and run his own studio. However, Helen tragically dies in an auto accident and is left to raise their baby daughter, Kelly.
As film-maker Harlan Hollis drives to a James Dean festival, he's unaware that killers are tracking his every move. Brief Synopsis. Harlan Hollis went from being the owner of a junkyard to becoming a successful car-driving stuntman and film director. Along the way, he made an enemy of one of his partners. When Harlan starts his trip to a James Dean memorial festival in Indiana, he finds that several people are trying to kill him.
