Perictione / ˌ p ɛ r ɪ k ˈ t aɪ ə ˌ n iː / (Greek: Περικτιόνη Periktiónē; c. 450-365 BCE) was the mother of the Greek philosopher Plato. She was a descendant of Solon, the Athenian lawgiver.
Perictione was a royal descendant, a teacher of Socrates and the mother of Plato. She wrote treatises on women's virtues, wisdom and harmony, and influenced Socratic thought and Plato's education.
Perictione and PERICTYONE ( Περικτιόνη , Περικτυόνη , the former being the more common form), is said to have been the mother of Plato, who was born B. C. 429. Diogenes Laertius (7.1) and Suidas ( s.v. Πλάτων ) call her also Potone, which was the name of Plato's sister.

Others say that there is no such connection, that the author of On the Harmony of Women (circa 425–300 B.C.) was a disciple of Pythagoras who had the same name but was not the mother of Plato.
