PASADENA— Eleanor M. Searle, Edie and Lew Wasserman Professor of History, Emeritus, died Tuesday, April 6. She was 72. Searle held the distinction of being the first woman at the Institute to receive a named professorship, to which she was appointed in 1988.
Eleanor Searle was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship in 1961, which she declined. She was an American Association of University Women Fellow in 1961-62 and held a National Endowment for the Humanities Senior Fellowship in 1981-82. Her first book, written jointly with D.
