Cheers is a popular American television comedy series that appeared on NBC for 11 seasons (1982–93), ranking in the top 10 of the year-end Nielsen ratings seven times. A mixture of comedy and soap-opera romance, it followed the lives of the staff and patrons of Cheers, a fictional bar in Boston.
Cheers originally aired on NBC from September 30, 1982 to May 20, 1993. Over the series run, 275 original episodes aired, an average of 25 episodes per season. In the early 1990s, 20 volumes of VHS cassettes were released; each had three half-hour episodes.
Cheers is a timeless classic. One of the few best sitcoms in the 20th Century, next to M.A.S.H. and Seinfeld. The story about a blue-collar Boston bar run by former sports star Sam Malone and the quirky and wonderful people who worked and drank there.
