It was built by the noted architects and designers Henry Holland, Lancelot (Capability) Brown and John Soane for Lord Clive.
A dignified neoclassical building of honey-coloured brick with stone dressings, it stands close to the main London-Portsmouth Road on the southern border of Esher, Surrey. Claremont and its grounds are both Grade I listed, and a number of structures in the grounds are also listed.
