Co-written and produced by cult film producer Herman Cohen, it was one of the most successful films released by American International Pictures (AIP).
Michael Landon, in his first starring role, plays the teenage werewolf, Tony Rivers (although he was 21 at the time). After starring in this smash hit, Landon went on to star in a western called "The Legend of Tom Dooley" (1959).
