The Defence Helicopter Flying School (DHFS) was a military flying school based at RAF Shawbury in Shropshire, England. The school, established in 1997, was a tri-service organisation and trained helicopter aircrews for all three British armed forces.
Most of the helicopter training activity in Low Flying Area 9 is carried out by No.1 Flying Training School, which trains helicopter aircrew for frontline service in the Royal Navy, British Army and the Royal Air Force, and The Central Flying School (Helicopters), which trains the next generation of military helicopter instructors.
The Defence Helicopter Flying School formed at RAF Shawbury to consolidate the helicopter training of all three services. 2 Flight Training Squadron of the RAF, 705 Naval Air Squadron and 670 Army Air Corps Squadron amalgamated in the new School.
