Sir William Russell Flint RA ROI (4 April 1880 – 30 December 1969) was a Scottish artist and illustrator who was known especially for his watercolours of women. He also worked in oils, tempera, and printmaking.
William Russell Flint was a Scottish illustrator and artist. Although he worked in all manners of media, he remains best known for his watercolors and his many depictions of the female body in muted, ochre hues, infusing his images with a studied sense of realism and a subdued hint of eroticism.

Russell Flint Biography. Sir William, born in 1880, entered the world of art as a commercial apprentice at the age of fourteen. Over the next seventy five years he was to rise to the innacles of his chosen profession.
Flint was largely known for his work in watercolour and won fame for his gypsies, flamenco dancers and dreamy nude paintings. He also illustrated a number of books and produced colour prints the Medici Society and for the Golden Cockerel Press.
Sir William Russell Flint was surely the greatest watercolour painter of the last century. In a lifetime spanning almost ninety years he fulfilled the role of devoted husband and father, medical illustrator, naval officer, etcher and painter.
