I had the honor of knowing [John Wrathall], as I grew up and went to school with his sons. John's sons are Chistopher, who attended Falcon College just outside Bulawayo, and Jonathan, who attended Mount Pleasant School in Salisbury. Both were born in Rhodesia, and are now living in South Africa.
Her father was John Wrathall, born 1831, who farmed 213 acres. He married Mary Mattinson Parker, and they had 4 children: my grandmother; Eleanor S., born 1862; William P., born 1865; and Anthony J., born 1867.
In July 2013, John Wrathall went swimming with his 3 sons. He was a screenwriter on a day off. The sons went in the river – and John had a stroke. Three months’ rehab taught him to talk and walk again (sort of). But it was only when he went back home that he realised life would be very different.
