Made in the middle of John Woo’s most celebrated period – Once a Thief is an oddity, owing to a lighter tone and fits of slapstick buffoonery. When all you want is a million films in which a trench coat clad Chow Yun-Fat is using two guns at once, its hard not to resent babysitting sight gags.
