The initial line-up was made up of dual lead vocalists in Wadhams and Plane, keyboardist Paul Antonelli, bassist Charles Ottavio, and drummer David "Frenchy" O'Brien. With Wadhams already handling some guitar duties, lead guitarist Don Kirkpatrick was brought into the band to supplement their sound.
He told me there’d been a bit of an implosion within the band. Astrid Plane, Frenchy O’Brien (drummer) and Charles Ottavio (bassist) had decided to part ways with the other two members—but would I like to remain with them and continue on. That’s when we became Animotion. This was around 1983. JR: Did you do the club scene in those years?
The band came under new management who suggested they get rid of female vocalist Astrid Plane and bassist Charles Ottavio (who were a couple at the time), and the band resentfully complied.
In 2005 Charles Ottavio, Astrid Plane and Bill Wadhams performed “Obsession” in the TV show Hit Me Baby One More Time and in 2009 they achieved the position of No. 12 in VH1’s Top 100 One Hit Wonders of the 80s.
