It wouldn’t surprise me if the US Geological Survey dropped it from the database entirely someday. Only the Last Chance Baptist Church remained as a reminder.     The Last Chance of Iowa fared about as well as its counterpart in Oklahoma. Here, the sole remaining sign of its existence was a cemetery. While I liked Last Chance as the name of a church I disliked it as a cemetery (map). A final resting place seemed to signify the end of any remaining chances. Last chance? More like no chance.     I found additional Last Chance settlements in Idaho, California and North Carolina. However, even less information existed about any of them. It seemed that every Last Chance was down to its last chance if any of them ever had a chance at all.

    • Flat Tops Trail Scenic Byway. Distance: 113 miles. Estimated time: 4 – 5 hours. Route open: spring, summer and fall. Steamboat Springs to Meeker via the Flat Tops Trail Scenic Byway is one of the best Colorado drives!
    • Top of the Rockies Scenic Byway: Leadville to Aspen via Independence Pass. Distance: 60 miles. Estimated time: 3 – 5 hours. Route open: Memorial Day through October.

Either you'll have to drive deep into the mountains via a rough 4x4 road to reach the trailhead, or you'll have to hike many miles from the closest two-wheel-drive trailhead.

  6. If you want a great time in the great outdoors just come on up to the Sangre De Cristo Mountains. Take a hike on the Camp Crockett Trail, and don't leave without popping by Pueblo State Park. If you come to this campground, you will have a nice time for sure.
