Apr 18, 2024 · For John, Jesus has truly become Wisdom from God for us (1 Cor. 1.24, 30).The only thing that I would like to have seen more of in this book is an elaboration on what Dr. Smith states briefly at the end, about how later Christian writers misinterpreted Wisdom texts to support their Logos Christology.

Smith draws on the "Lady Wisdom" texts found in Proverbs 1, 8, 9, Sirach 24, and Wisdom of Solomon 6-11 to show that many of the unique features of the Gospel of John (i.e. Jesus is the Life, the Word, Light, the unique/only begotten son, etc.) were already said about Lady Wisdom.

Apr 18, 2024 · Dustin Smith's "Wisdom Christology in the Gospel of John" is an insightful and accessible exploration that bridges the gap between the Gospel of John and ancient wisdom literature. As someone not deeply familiar with wisdom literature, I found the book extremely beginner friendly and approachable.
