Matsudo is a regional commercial center and a bedroom community for nearby Chiba and Tokyo, with some 37% of the population commuting to Tokyo. Although located in Chiba Prefecture, the city has relatively poor transportation connections to Chiba City.
Matsudo is located in north-west Chiba, parallel to the Edogawa River and offering great access to Tokyo via the JR Joban Line. The city boasts several tourist attractions, such as the historical Tojo-tei residence and Museum of History, as well as the Yagiri-no-Watashi ferry boat crossing from the early Edo Period.
