Sir Robert Gordon Menzies KT AK CH QC FAA FRS (20 December 1894 – 15 May 1978) was an Australian politician and lawyer who served as the 12th prime minister of Australia from 1939 to 1941 and 1949 to 1966.
Sir Robert Menzies was a statesman who, as prime minister of Australia (1939–41, 1949–66), strengthened military ties with the United States and fostered industrial growth and immigration from Europe. Menzies gave up a highly successful law practice in Victoria to serve in the state legislature.

Robert Gordon Menzies was Australia’s 12th and longest-serving Prime Minister. He held the office twice, from 1939 to 1941 and from 1949 to 1966. Altogether he was Prime Minister for over 18 years – still the record term for an Australian prime minister.
Robert Menzies – ‘Bob’ Menzies or Mr Menzies – was Australia’s longest-serving Prime Minister. In 1944 he helped found the Liberal Party, which in terms of winning elections has been the most successful party in Australian federal politics.
