Super Saiyan Rage makes its debut appearance in Dokkan Battle under the name Super Saiyan. The form also appears and is given its proper name as in Super Dragon Ball Heroes. In Dragon Ball Legends, Super Saiyan Rage Future Trunks makes an appearance under the name Super Saiyan Trunks (Adult) (Rage).

In my opinion there is a high likelihood that Trunks' form has nothing to do with god ki and is the "true" evolution of SSJ2. SSJ3 was only ever achieved by a dead Goku and Gotenks who both just mutated the SSJ2 form further for more power.
It is a super saiyan transformation, but appears to have traces of god ki leading to part of it to turn blue. Thus, it appears as though the exposure of god ki has allowed Trunks to emulate (most likely subconsciously) god ki to develop a blue aura.

I think it’s Trunks’s version of Super Saiyan 3, though I can’t be too sure. It’s certainly stronger than 2, though the blue aura within the gold aura suggests something about God Ki, since he’d seen Goku and Vegeta use it.
May 19, 2017 · In the discussions about Dragon Ball Super, it's always been wonder if Trunks got some level of god ki after transforming into "Super Saiyan Rage" , since there's partially a blue aura and some features of the ki are drawn similar to those of a Super Saiyan Blue and not a regular Super Saiyan.
