HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Oct. 22 -- Joseph M. Schenck, one of the last surviving giants of the motion picture industry, died today at his Beverly Hills home. He was 82 years old.
The chairman of United Artists, he created its theater chain. He was one of the original 36 founders of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), received an Honorary Academy Award in 1952 and is honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6757 Hollywood Blvd.
