He married Princess Bathildis of Schaumburg-Lippe, daughter of Prince William of Schaumburg-Lippe and Princess Bathildis of Anhalt-Dessau, in Náchod on 9 August 1895. They had three sons and one daughter: Josias, Hereditary Prince of Waldeck and Pyrmont (b. 13 May 1896, d. 30 November 1967)
