Grad zauzima površinu od 636 km² niz tok Zapadne Morave, okružen planinama Vujan (857 m) na severu, Ovčar (958 m) i Kablar (885 m) na zapadu i Jelica (929 m) na jugu dok je na istoku otvoren prema kraljevačkoj kotlini. U njegovoj blizini su i planine Suvobor i Maljen koje se nalaze na severozapadu.
