Feb 22, 2023 · In the Guildhall Art Gallery you can find a bright, enlarged version of one of the earliest maps of London. The Guildhall Art Gallery. It is known as the Agas map and depicts Tudor London in 1561. It was once wrongly attributed to cartographer Ralph Agas and the name stuck. Printed using 8 wood blocks, it measures about 2 metres in length.
Bread Street was the birthplace of John Milton. The house where the great poet was born, and where his father carried on the profession of a scrivener, was burnt down in the Great Fire of 1666. In Bread Street formerly stood Buckingham House, the town residence of the noble family of Stafford, Earls of Wiltshire and Dukes of Buckingham.
