Not Far From The Tree is Toronto’s fruit tree harvesting program, founded in 2008. We pick fruit in people’s yards – what we call Toronto’s urban orchard – and share the bounty with organizations that feed our fellow Torontonians.
What We Do. Reduce Food Waste: by putting fruit to good use. Increase Food Access: by engaging as many people as possible in the harvest. Steward the Urban Orchard: by monitoring the health of fruit trees and providing training opportunities in fruit tree care.

Not Far From The Tree is Toronto’s fruit tree project, making sure that the fruit growing amidst Toronto’s urban canopy is picked, shared, eaten, and enjoyed.
Not Far From The Tree is Toronto's very own fruit tree project, inspiring Torontonians to harvest, share, celebrate, and steward the bounty from our urban forest. When a homeowner can't keep up with the abundant harvest produced by their tree, they let us know and we mobilize a team of volunteers to pick their tree.
Mar 9, 2024 · In 2022, Not Far from the Tree volunteers picked over 23,000 pounds of fruit from 335 trees. The city is home to a hidden orchard, complete with apples, cherries, mulberries, apricots, plums, and pears. Volunteer pickers pay a small fee to join picking events from June to October.
