The SS Jeremiah O'Brien is the only surviving ship from the 6,000-ship fleet that stormed Normandy on D-Day in 1944.It's 441 feet and 6 inches long.Its gross tonnage is around 7,100, and its displacement tonnage is 14,300.It crossed the English Channel eleven times with both personnel and supplies in preparation for the D-Day invasion.Its new location is just as easy to get to as its old location on Pier 45. SS Jeremiah O'Brien is a Liberty ship built during World War II and named after the American Revolutionary War ship captain Jeremiah O'Brien (1744–1818). Now based in San Francisco, she is a rare survivor of the 6,939-ship 6 June 1944 D-Day armada off the coast of Normandy, France.
Dec 6, 2012 · A day on the Bay on the Jeremiah O'Brien is a great adventure and well worth the expense. The ship is operated professionally and visitors have access to many areas of the ship. Coffee and donuts in abundance was provided before casting off and a box lunch around noontime.
