If I plan on releasing on Steam after the game is done, is there a way for me to decide to give keys to anyone who has been a Patreon for longer than X months? Is this even a good strategy? If you have ideas, or especially experience with this, I'd love to hear what you have to say.
No you can't link to a patreon page from your Steam game. If you submit a game for review with a patreon link, it'll be rejected asking you to remove the link. If you add later chances are you'll get banned when Steam finds out, so don't do it.
Patreon pays you for working on stuff, not for releasing stuff. So it's best for long-running projects which are never truly finished but still allow you to release piecemeal versions of it in order to keep people interested.
