Dec 12, 2014 · The Captive may appear to bite off a little more than it can chew but it's one of the most satisfyingly baroque thrillers of the year, and thanks to a perfectly judged performance by Ryan Reynolds, it's quietly heartbreaking, too.
A movie about a girl who is abducted and held captive by a pedophile for eight years, and her father's desperate search for her. The plot is told in a non-linear fashion, with flashbacks and clues that reveal the mystery of her disappearance and the identity of her captor.
A thriller about a missing girl and a mysterious kidnapper, directed by Atom Egoyan and starring Ryan Reynolds and Rosario Dawson. Critics panned the film for its slow pace, convoluted plot and lack of suspense.
