Having been initially formed in Farmingdale, Grumman had moved to Bethpage by the time the credit union was separated in 1994, thus changing its name to Bethpage Federal Credit Union. In 2003, Bethpage was approved for the largest federal community charter in the U.S., allowing its rapid growth.

The name Bethpage comes from the Quaker Thomas Powell, who named the area after the Biblical town Bethphage, which was between Jericho and Jerusalem in the Holy Land. Present-day Bethpage was part of the 1695 Bethpage Purchase.

Oct 6, 2014 · Land was purchased to build the Bethpage State Park from the Yoakum Estate, Botto Farm and other farm land. 1931 Mr. W. Ahern wrote to Robert Moses, Mr. W. Howes and George LeBoutiller requesting name changed from Central Park to Bethpage.
