It was directed by Carlos Saldanha from a screenplay written by Don Rhymer, Joshua Sternin, Jeffrey Ventimilia, and Sam Harper, based on a story conceived by Saldanha and the writing team of Earl Richey Jones and Todd Jones.

Apr 15, 2011 · This comedy-adventure centers on Blu, a flightless macaw who acts more human than bird. When Blu, the last of his kind, discovers there's another, and that she's a "she," he embarks on an adventure to the magical city of Rio.
When Blu, a domesticated macaw from small-town Minnesota, meets the fiercely independent Jewel, he takes off on an adventure to Rio de Janeiro with the bird of his dreams. In Rio de Janeiro, baby macaw, Blu, is captured by dealers and smuggled to the USA.
Rio is a series of animated films produced by Blue Sky Studios and 20th Century Fox Animation. It consists of two feature films, and two licensed video games, with a third film in early development.
