You're told a lot about research and work-study as a first year, but it's pretty hard to get involved/selected for many of the more interesting programs as a first year. I think the four course limit is a bit tight, sometimes it feels like I want a little more, but again, maybe that's just me.
If you want to go to Vassar I'd just apply, but you in general should be a great student at a great school, or a top student at a smaller school, though you don't need to be like a person born to go to the Ivy League.
