Global News: BC 1 (often referred to as BC 1) is a Canadian English language specialty channel owned by Corus Entertainment and operated alongside the Corus-owned Global Television Network's Vancouver owned-and-operated television station CHAN-DT (Global BC).
Global News is the news and current affairs division of the Canadian Global Television Network. The network is owned by Corus Entertainment, which oversees all of the network's national news programming as well as local news on its 21 owned-and-operated stations.
Corus Entertainment owns Global News and the billion-dollar media company is majority owned (80%) by the family of JR Shaw. The same family also owns about 80% of the voting rights in Shaw Communications which funds $13 million for local news provided by Corus television stations so the two companies are deeply intertwined.
