Jun 26, 2023 · Toronto voters chose a new mayor Monday in a byelection that saw a record 102 candidates on the ballot. Most of the 1,445 polls throughout Canada's most populous city closed at 8 p.m. ET.
The election was won by Olivia Chow, a former city councillor and member of Parliament (MP). She defeated former deputy mayor Ana Bailão, former police chief Mark Saunders, and 99 other candidates. Chow assumed office on July 12, 2023.
