Patara is a nature reserve, an ancient ruined city and a small village with the official name Gelemiş, in Lycia, Turkey.
Jan 30, 2024 · Patara lies in the Antalya Province of southern Turkey. It is just off the D400 coastal road between Fethiye and Antalya (see map below). Bars, restaurants and nearby hotels are low key and are mostly situated in the village of Gelemiş. From Fethiye, Patara is about 1 hour’s drive along the D400.

Patara (17 km, or 11 miles west of Kalkan by road on Turkey's Mediterranean coast ( map ), was a province in the Lycian kingdom dedicated to Apollo and eventually became part of the Roman province in 43 by merging with Pamphylia.
Ancient Patara. Patara's grand monuments lie scattered along the road to the beach. The main section of ruins is dominated by the dilapidated 5000-seat theatre. Next door is the bouleuterion, ancient Patara's 'parliament', where it is believed members of the Lycian League met.
