Salem's Lot Locations. The 1979 miniseries is set in a fictional town, Salem’s Lot, in Maine, New England. However, none of the scenes in the two-part film series were filmed in Maine. Instead, Salem’s Lot production took place in the Northern California town of Ferndale.
