Lockport is a city in Will County, Illinois, United States, located 30 miles southwest of Chicago. Per the 2020 census, the population was 26,094. [3] The city was incorporated in 1853. [4] It is situated along the Illinois and Michigan (I&M) Canal, [5] and was the headquarters of the canal when the canal was operating.
- Gaylord Building. The first thing to see in Lockport is also the gateway to the I&M Canal National Heritage Corridor, preserving numerous historical sites along 100 miles and 60 different communities.
- Lincoln Landing. Laid out parallel to the canal in the 2000s, the space in front of the Gaylord Building is an outdoor museum and plaza, celebrating the waterway’s foundation.
- Illinois State Museum – Lockport Gallery. The handsome Norton Building dates back to 1850 and was constructed as a canalside grain processing facility.
