Hopkinsville, city, seat of Christian county, southwestern Kentucky, U.S. It originated as Christian Court House, was renamed Elizabeth, which became the county seat in 1797, and was renamed in 1804 to honour Samuel Hopkins, soldier of the American Revolution and pioneer.
