Pewaukee History. Pewaukee was organized as a separate town on 13th January, 1840. In 1999 the city of Pewaukee was incorporated from parts of the "Town of Pewaukee." The name of the city is derived from native Potawatomi for "dusty water" or "lake of shells." The first settler of Pewaukee was Asa Clark.
