May 11, 2022 · Glasgow is a port on the River Clyde about 32 km from its mouth in the North Atlantic, in the region known as the western Lowlands. It lies about 45-72 km west of Edinburgh. The city’s neighborhoods sprawl along most of the lower Clyde valley, and most government and business sectors can be found on the northern side of the river.

- Glasgow has connections to the River Clyde that go back to the Roman Empire. For millennia, the river was a prime fishing site for Scotland’s ancient tribes, so when the Romans arrived 2,000 years ago, the tribespeople did not take kindly to the Roman outposts that were built along the Antonine Wall.
