The company had absorbed SGE Home Video in 1991, to pick up the distribution rights to Shapiro/Glickenhaus titles. In 1995, it picked up the rights to distribute DreamWorks' home video titles, in addition to MCA handling record titles.

On December 9, 1996, MCA/Universal Home Video renamed itself as "Universal Studios Home Video" when MCA was reincorporated as Universal Studios.It began to distribute titles from third-party companies, like Lionsgate Films, October Films, DreamWorks Pictures and The Kushner-Locke Company.

Surprisingly, on a later VHS reprint of Fletch, the MCA/Universal logo and even the Universal Pictures logo in the film was replaced with the 1997 logo. Editor's Note : The name on this logo became outdated in late 1996, as MCA ceased operations by that point, even more so when the movie division updated its logo several months later.
