Don Camillo (pronounced [ˈdɔŋ kaˈmillo]) and Peppone (pronounced [pepˈpoːne]) are the fictional protagonists of a series of works by the Italian writer and journalist Giovannino Guareschi set in what Guareschi refers to as the "small world" of rural Italy after World War II.
Giovanni Guareschi (1908-1968) was an Italian writer and director, best known for his comic stories featuring Don Camillo, a parish priest in conflict with the communist mayor. He also wrote novels, screenplays and commentaries, and directed Anger (1963).
